It’s been a while since I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing a great iPad stand, even more, one for kids. That’s exactly what I’m doing now though. MobiMates is an offshoot of Lap Pro and has two cute and cuddly iPad stands for kids available. My kids and I have spent some time with them, and in short, they’re great!
So what is the MobiMate?
The MobiMate is a medium-size stuffed animal that is about a foot tall, it is soft, light, and cuddly. It’s feels like any other stuffed animal, and pretty much is…except that it is also a fully functional iPad stand. There aren’t any metal parts or hinges or skeletal frames that get in the way to ruin the stuffed animal feel either, and yet it somehow just magically holds the iPad nicely for kids, and makes it easier to use.

The MobiMate bears work on ones lap in many positions, laying on the couch, on a table, the floor, or in bed. With the natural tension of the arms used to secure the iPad from moving, and the legs of the bear supporting the bottom of the device, the MobiMate keeps the iPad in place, where kids can watch, play, read, or FaceTime.
What my kids thought.
As soon as the package arrived I opened the box with my kids. There were instant, “awwwws” from both of them. They just assumed it was a cute bear to cuddle with. After a minute of checking it out, all three of us, I set it on the table and put the iPad in its lap. They were now saying, “oh, awesome”. From that point on they used the MobiMate bear for days, actually fighting over who got to take it to bed for reading time before sleep (we ended up switching back and forth daily).
Overall I was pretty impressed with the quality of the MobiMate bear, as a stuffed animal and stand combination it really succeeds in giving kids a more child-friendly experience. We’ve used the MobiMate bear with the iPad 2, 4, Air, and iPad mini…without issues for any of them. My kids also have cases on their iPad mini’s and that posed no problems either.
